Praise for OMRT as missing elderly man found

OLDHAM MOUNTAIN Rescue Team has been praised for finding an elderly man who went missing at the weekend.

A police helicopter swept Saddleworth villages with a searchlight at the beginning of an overnight search into Saturday morning.

Then at the request of GMP, 15 members of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, backed by five specially-trained dogs, joined the hunt.

Mick Nield, OMRT’s leader, said: “Shortly after the first teams were deployed a number of possible sightings were reported to our members including a recent sighting in a field.

“The gentleman was located and transported to our ambulance where he was checked over before being handed over to the ambulance service.

“Other than being cold and wet he was ok.

“The Team and Police would like to thank all those in the community who assisted in the search.”

PC Mark Clough of the Borough’s Saddleworth and Lees neighbourhood policing team, added: “Mountain Rescue did a great job and the public were very supportive.”
