Praise rains down on talented Delph boxer

DELPH BOXER Andrew Kremner won plaudits following his latest success at Manchester Victoria Warehouse.

The 22-year-old’s impressive points victory against Nuneaton’s Kristian Laight impressed international referee Ian John-Lewis.

The official awarded light-welterweight Kremner all four rounds with a 40-36 scoreline as he overcame an opponent who was having his 209th bout as a professional. By contrast it was the local fighter’s fourth fight – and he has won the lot.

“The referee, who has officiated at a lot of world-title fights, went over to my trainer John Murray at the end of the fight and told him he had a good kid. I was really chuffed with the comments from a high level referee,” he said.

Kremner described Laight as his toughest opponent, but was delighted how he executed the fight.

He said: “Without wanting to blow my own trumpet, it was one of those rare occasions when everything went perfectly which is why I savoured it because it doesn’t happen that often.

“I started at a high tempo and finished at a high pace  winning all four rounds. It was my best performance and most enjoyable one, and I loved every second of it.”

All four of Kremner’s bout as a professional have been over four rounds, but now he is looking to raise the bar and step up to six rounds and also take on classier opponents.

After a short break following the fight, Kremner is back in the gym and is aiming for a quick return to the ring.

He is also hoping that in 12 months time he may be ready for a stab at a Central Area title.

“That is what I am striving to achieve, and hopefully that would be the first of many titles,” he said.
