PREPARATIONS ARE well underway for the 43rd traditional Rushcart Festival hosted by Saddleworth Morris Men.
This year’s annual spectacle will take place on Bank Holiday Weekend, August 26 and 27 and attracts Morris Sides and spectators from nearby as well as across the country.
Saddleworth Morris Men are already getting hands on to build their eye-catching Rushcart for their event.
On Saturday, they start at 10am in Uppermill Square before processing to Greenfield at 10.45am. They will dance there until 11.30am before returning to Uppermill Museum and Library Gardens for 12noon-1.30pm.
At 2.15-3.45pm they will be in Delph, then in Dobcross from 4.15-5.15pm, finishing at The Navigation at 5.30-6pm.
And on Sunday they will in Uppermill Square at 10.30-11am before setting off for the service at St Chad’s Church, followed by an afternoon of entertainment at the Church Inn and Cross Keys from 12noon.
The side is seeking support to help keep the traditional event going as they need to pay a local contractor to provide traffic management for the procession of the cart and more than 120 Morris Men visiting from across the UK.
A £100 donation covers a full page advert in their programme or pay £50 to be a patron in exchange for a programme acknowledgment and on their website.
