Two of Oldham Council’s parks have again retained their prestigious Green Flag Awards.
The accolades mean the green spaces are again officially recognised as being among the best in country.
Alexandra Park in Oldham and Shaw-based Dunwood Park have both been judged to be well-managed and high-quality by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The green spaces were also deemed to provide excellent facilities at international standard and were praised for their conservation and heritage work.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Co-operatives, said: “Oldham Council is committed to providing high standard green spaces for residents and the news that Alexandra Park and Dunwood Park have retained their Green Flag Awards shows we are on the right track.
“Throughout the borough, families are able to enjoy free, safe and top class facilities on their doorsteps.
“I would like to congratulate the council staff and volunteers who have done a fantastic job in helping us retain these awards.”
Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award scheme manager, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme.

“Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.
“The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
The awards come in the middle of Love Parks Week, which runs until Sunday 23 July – and Oldham has a number of events taking place for all the family to enjoy.
Love Parks Week, now in its eleventh year, is Britain’s biggest celebration of these valuable green spaces.
It gives everyone an opportunity to show how much they love their local park and it also has local communities boasting about how great their nearest parts of nature are.
