Saddleworth defeated Waterhead Academy 16-1, Radclyffe 11-4 and Bluecoat 8-4 with James Fish named the tournament’s most valuable player.

They will now represent Oldham in the Greater Manchester Schools Games at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, July 15.

Meanwhile, the year eight cricket team has enjoyed success reaching the fourth round of the County Cup when they lost to Burnage School.

Saddleworth made a modest 105 – Sam Holt was 39 not out and Adam Howarth hit 29 – but Burnage reached their victory target with 10 balls to spare as a number of dropped catches proved costly.

In the earlier rounds, Saddleworth defeated Bolton School; Bury Grammar School and St Joseph’s, Bolton.

Matthew Barlow starred with bat and ball against Bolton School. He top scored with 34 out of a modest total of 80 and then claimed six wickets for four runs as their opponents were bowled out for only 57.

Adam Howarth top scored with 48 runs against Bury Grammar in a total of 85 for five while Joe Ireland claimed a hat trick as Bury were bowled out for 41.

Howarth hit 50, Barlow 39 and Matthew White 37 as Saddleworth amassed 181 in their 20 overs against St Jospeh’s who were dismissed for 54

The team will now focus its efforts on retaining the Oldham schools’ title as they are through to the semi finals.

In the quarter final Saddleworth, missing eight players due to a school trip and a representative district match, restricted Failsworth to 64 for five and reached their victory target with 10 overs to spare.
