MOTOR-CYCLE racer Ashley Beech was in action close to home in round 10 of the National Superstock Championship which took place at Oulton Park, Cheshire.
The 27-year-old from Moorside, riding his Kawasaki ZR-10R for JD Racing, began well finishing sixth quickest in the first
qualifying session.
However, he was unable to sustain this and eventually finished qualifying in 16th place.
On race day, Ashley was forced to take evasive action following a crash on the first corner which enabled the leading group to pull away.
For 14 laps Ashley battled hard and despite his bike still suffering with wheel spin he rode superbly to eventually cross the line in 16th place.
In the previous round at Cadwell Park, Ashley finished a creditable ninth to collect seven points to climb to 12th place in the championship table.
It was a great result bearing in mind Ashley’s bike was plagued by technical problems in early practice, but he eventually climbed from 28th to 11th place and the fourth row of the grid.
Ashley made a flying start and was holding 11th place at the end of the first lap and was settling into his rhythm until on lap three a rider fell heavily causing the red flags to halt the race.
Once the injured rider had been attended to, the race was restarted but reduced to 11 laps. Again Ashley made a great start and had moved up to ninth place when the red flags again brought the race to a premature end when a rider crashed at the top of the mountain section.
As two thirds of the race had been completed, a result was declared.
The next round of the championship is at Silverstone on October 2/4. Follow Ashley and the team’s progress at www.jonesdorlingracing.com, on Twitter @JDR_Racing or on Facebook JonesDorlingRacing
