The annual event, at the Civic Hall in Uppermill, offered cream tea and scones for guests to enjoy before a raffle was held, with prizes from local businesses including flowers, a fruit hamper, vouchers and chocolates.

A vast array of gifts and souvenirs were also on sale, ranging from key rings, teddies and tea towels to cards, pens and tea.

Proceeds raised, including donations, go to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, for which the Guild – headed by chairman Joan Halkyard – raised £13,800 last year.

Their total raised this year had already topped £5,000 thanks to a Charity Night at the Millgate Art Centre, a collection in Tesco, an open garden event and a cross bay walk organised by members.

The next event to be held by the Saddleworth Ladies Lifeboat Guild is a Luncheon at the White Hart in Lydgate on Sunday, September 29. Tickets for the three-course meal, including a pre-meal drink, cost £30 and are available from Joan on 01457 875375 or other Guild members.
