A DELAY completing long-standing roadworks on Standedge Road has been partially blamed on “exceptionally cold weather.”
Work on the Acker Hall Farm retaining wall project was scheduled to take six months and finish at the end of January.
But Oldham Council has confirmed completion of the £400,000 scheme will not now be until Friday, February 22, 2019.
An Oldham Council spokesperson said: “This delay been caused by a combination of unforeseen ground conditions and days of exceptionally cold weather which prevented the pouring of in-situ concrete.
“The work was originally programmed to be completed in late January 2019.
“The revised completion date is now Friday, 22 February – this is of course weather dependent.”
Unsuspecting motorists have endured a near 12 miles diversion since July 2018.
Vehicles have been directed along the A62 to Cross Street in Oldham town centre before turning back along the A669.
Meanwhile, a road diversion is in place for at least 12 months while works are carried out to repair a culvert at Thurston Clough, Delph.
The diversionary route, which is now in operation, is along Stoneswood Road, The Sound, Oldham Road, Doctor Lane, and Thurston Clough Road – in both directions.
