The year-11 team won a tournament at Counthill beating Bluecoat, Radclyffe, Failsworth and Royton and Crompton.

And the year-eight team, as Oldham town team winners, is also on the march in the North West Carnegie Champion Schools’ Competition.

They overturned a 16-0 deficit to beat St Helens school Cowley 30-16 in round one with a brace of tries apiece from Fenton Rogers and Gabriel Payne.

They now face St Edmund Arrowsmith, from Wigan, in the quarter finals.

The target is to go one better than last year and make the finals day at the Stobart Stadium, Widnes, on January 23.

The year nine rugby team also progressed to the quarter finals of the NW champion schools’ event after a hard-fought 26-20 at De La Salle from St Helens.

The Saddleworth points came from player-of-the-match Sam Thackeray, who scored two tries, inspirational hooker Kien Molloy, prop Jacob Butterworth and captain Bennett Tupaea (all one try each). Brandon Turner kicked three conversions and ensured victory.

The year nine football team has winning start to the season with a 4-1 victory against Oldham Academy North following an excellent all-round team performance and a 6-1 success against Waterhead Academy after working tirelessly.

Zak Pemberton was the best player against Waterhead and the pick of their goals was a strike into the top corner by Gabriel Preston that followed a 20-pass move.
