Saddleworth artist captures local scenes in unique stitch-based exhibition

A UNIQUE exhibition capturing local landscapes in stitch-based drawings is currently on display at the Brownhill Visitors Centre.

Award-winning artist Claire Mather is showcasing her individual, textile approach from April 3 – May 4.

Pieces include various local subjects, including Dovestone Reservoir, Marsden Moor, Saddleworth Morris Men, Pots and Pans, as well as new works.

Freelance artist Claire delighted visitors to Gallery Oldham with a ‘Sketches in Stitch’ exhibition last month and will be exhibiting some of the same pieces.

She said: “Gallery Oldham was a real success, with lots of pieces sold and since Authentic (gift shop) have been showcasing my work there has been a very positive response.

“My work is in response to the landscape and villages of where I live. I am charmed by the stunning scenery, its shape and form.”

Claire’s art is now sold in Authentic gift shop in Uppermill and is on display at The Old Original at Scouthead as she is their Artist in Residence.
