Saddleworth Chatter: Walking home

Saddleworth Chatter by GH

JOE HAD enjoyed a great night with all his pals in his local pub The Swan in Delph.

It was closing time so he left and started his long walk home.

He soon realised he had left it a bit late to go because it was now near totally dark and a strong wind had also sprung up.

In order to shorten his journey he decided to take a short cut home across the field where Farmer Higgins kept his prize herd of dairy cows.

Half way across the field unfortunately the strong wind blew his cap off into the darkness and Joe was forced to search for his old but well-loved headgear.

Next morning Joe was relating his previous nights adventure to Harry, the local postman.

Harry said: “You say you walked back across Higgins field in the dark? What about all those cow pats?”

“You are reet,” said Joe. “I had tried four of them on before I finally found my cap!”
