Saddleworth Clog and Garland Dancers Day of Dance to brighten up Uppermill

A LIVELY Day of Dance will brighten up Uppermill as the Saddleworth Clog and Garland Dancers host their annual event on Saturday, March 28.

This year, they will be joined by groups from across the North West including Rivington Morris from Bolton, the Chorlton Cloghoppers from Manchester and Westmorland Step and Garland Dancers from Kendal.

Also joining in will be Persephone Women’s North West Morris from Cleckheaton, Milltown Cloggies from Stalybridge and Thieving Magpie Morris from Marsden as the dancing takes place around the village.

The popular event is a celebration of dance from various North West clog dancing styles and is free to all.

The Saddleworth Clog and Garland Dancers are a women’s team, dancing traditional North West clog stepping, and their history is based on mill girls who used to dance to celebrate the wakes in Delph.

They were revived in 1979 and their aim is to keep this Saddleworth tradition and history alive and promote North West clog dancing.

The Saddleworth Clog and Garland Dancers are always looking for new women dance members and for both male and female musicians to join the team. They practice every Monday night 8pm-10pm at the Ebenezer Congregational Church in Uppermill.
