A GROUP of unemployed young people from Oldham have rolled up their sleeves to make a difference by improving the spectator areas at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club.

The youngsters are currently completing The Prince’s Trust team programme with Groundwork to give them the skills and confidence to find a job.
During the 13-week course, they have been fundraising, helping communities and building their skills.
And as part of their practical work, eight young people spent two weeks sprucing up the rugby club, on Shaw Hall Bank Road, Greenfield.
They have repainted hand railings in the spectator areas and entrance path, and carried out a litter pick around the club in readiness for the start of the new season.
Peter Townsend, club secretary, said: “We’re very appreciative of the efforts of these young people over the past few weeks and would like to thank Groundwork for their support.”
One of the young people involved in the project, Luke Telford, 24, said: “This project has helped us improve our team working skills and given us a taste of project management.

“We kept team motivation levels high by singing songs and we’re all proud that we have made a difference.”
Adeel Abbas, Prince’s Trust team leader at Groundwork, said: “The young people have shown great commitment, working in all weathers to get the work done.
“The team programme is all about developing skills and confidence to succeed in life and the project at Saddleworth Rangers has been a great way to put these skills into action.”
The Prince’s Trust will help 55,000 disadvantaged young people this year and three in four on the schemes move into work, education or training.
