Saddleworth club has been bridging the gap for 50 years

MEMBERS of Saddleworth Bridge Club left their packs of cards at home when they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

But they still reserved a good hand for guest speaker David Stevenson who joined the Uppermill group for its big 50 birthday at the White Hart, Lydgate.

David has forgotten more about bridge than most players know in his roles as professional player, tournament director and Grand Master.

His audience of 64 members and guests were suitably entertained during their special night.

As they were also by chairman, Stephen Angus, who told some amusing anecdotes about original members and the Club’s time at its first venue in Saddleworth School.

Members now meet every Monday at the Masonic Hall in Uppermill from 7.15pm. New bridge players are always welcome. For more details visit their website:
