Saddleworth mum launches unique bar to spread cafe culture to Mossley

By Trevor Baxter

MOSSLEY COULD become the new Uppermill thanks to the vision of a Saddleworth mum.

For when Springhead-based Cheryl Buckley saw the light, the Aurora Caffé Bar was the outcome.

Opening later this month, the family business venture will be the only eating and drinking experience of its kind in bottom or top Mossley.

Customers of the former Station Cafe, opposite the town’s railway station, won’t recognise the old place when its doors open.

Diggle-raised Cheryl, daughter Georgina, son Ross and brother Rob Hutchins have grafted to put the finishing touches to the upmarket establishment which will open seven days a week from 6am to 11pm.

Former owner of the Gift House on High Street, Uppermill, Cheryl successfully battled breast cancer and brought up her youngest son before deciding to go back into business.

“I just felt I had so much to give,” explained the ex Saddleworth School pupil. “After getting the all clear from cancer, I started to consider what I could do.

“My partner, Chris, is a window cleaner and covers a lot of the new estates in Mossley. He told me about the Station Café and it has gone from there.

“We got the keys in March and have been renovating ever since. It is unrecognisable from when we first took over.

“There is definitely a gap in the market and the feedback locally has been nothing but positive.

“It is a prime location across from the station and while we want to attract people from far and wide, the venue is for the people of Mossley.

“We looked at Lees as a possible location but decided against it and Uppermill was a non starter for obvious reasons,” added Cheryl, now a qualified barista.

Aurora, complete with impressive internal lights, will serve a variety of food, coffee, wine and bottled beers. There’s also wifi plus an outside seating area.

Cheryl added: “Hopefully we have thought of everything and Mossley will be pleased with the outcome.”
