THREE candidates will battle it out to be Saddleworth Parish Council’s next member at a January by-election.
The resignation of Mavis Bingley at the age of 86 has sparked a new poll to find out who will take her place in the Greenfield ward.
And because there are multiple people standing, a vote will take place on Thursday, January 16.
Former borough councillor Chris McManus is standing for the Conservatives, two years after losing his Saddleworth South seat at Oldham Council.
But Brian Witt is hoping to keep Mrs Bingley’s seat in the hands of the Liberal Democrats.
And Archie Duncan will be standing for the Labour Party.
Mrs Bingley was one of the first members of the Satellite Youth Centre committee and is a former governor of St Mary’s School in Greenfield and St Anne’s School in Lydgate.
She was also a Brownie Guide leader at Uppermill for 30 years.
Her community involvement and contribution earned her a special nomination and trip to Buckingham Palace for a Garden Party in 2005.
People will be able to vote at any of four polling stations on January 16 – St Anne’s School in Lydgate, Christ Church at Friezland and either St Mary’s Church or the Methodist Church in Greenfield.
