Saddleworth Rangers set for world record attempt to raise funds for new clubhouse

Saddleworth Rangers LogoFinal preparations are underway for Saddleworth Rangers’s attempt to break the world record for the longest ever game of touch rugby and raise funds for a new clubhouse.

The challenge will take place over the bank holiday on August 29 and 30 when 28 players will have to keep a game of touch going for 30 hours to beat the record, which was set by Waterloo Rugby Union Club in 2012.

On the other half of the main pitch, juniors, opposition teams and past players will take turns to also play continuously for 30 hours between them.

It’s hoped the event will raise tens of thousands of pounds towards a new clubhouse for Rangers, who have been backed by rugby stars around the country, including Tom Burgess and Kevin Sinfield.

The record attempt begins at 10am on Saturday 29 Aug and it will be broken just after 4pm on the Sunday.

The Challenge Cup will be shown on the big screen on Saturday afternoon, and there will be fun family activities and refreshments available throughout both days.

Chairman Shane Wilson said: “This is going to be a brilliant weekend. We’ll have a great time, raise lots of money towards the clubhouse and hopefully write ourselves into the record books.

“We’re going to have events on at the club over the weekend and finish with a big celebration night on the Sunday once we’ve beaten the record.”
