Maureen Glaser lost her heroic fight against cancer despite her extraordinary efforts to continue with life and work.

Mrs Glaser, from Oldham, taught at Saddleworth School from 2004 until the last weeks of her life. Her funeral was held on Thursday, December 5 at Radcliffe Crematorium.

In a letter to parents, pupils and carers, Matthew Milburn, the school headteacher, said: “Everyone will remember her as a teacher of the highest standards.

“She was fiercely intelligent, patient and determined and cared passionately about enabling every child to succeed at the highest level.

“She was a remarkable woman and everyone connected with the school is saddened to hear the news.

“Our thoughts and best wishes go to Mr Glaser and the wider family – we want to ensure we do all we can to make their loss more bearable.”

Mrs Glaser was previously a lecturer in Philosophy at Lancaster, Stirling and Johns Hopkins Universities and later taught English to foreign students in Oxford and Germany.

A Mrs Glaser Commemorative Fund has been set up to buy literature for children at Saddleworth School. Any donations can be given to the finance office at Saddleworth School in an envelope marked Mrs Glaser Commemorative fund.
