Saddleworth School students crowned among best in Oldham by Rotary Club

TALENTED Saddleworth School pupils were among the winners at the Oldham Student of the Year Awards 2019.

The accolades are organised annually by the Rotary Club of Oldham and were presented at a special ceremony at the Civic Centre by the outgoing Mayor of Oldham Cllr Javid Iqbal.

Joseph Taylor, head boy of Saddleworth School, was named Student of the Year while fellow pupil Rosie Naylor was also shortlisted.

And former head boy Joseph Wheeler, now at Blue Coat School, received a Special Award while former pupil Courtney Hopwood, now at Oldham Sixth Form College, was named 16+ Student of the Year.

The Rotary Club of Oldham said: “We had again a very high standard of nominations and the panel found it really challenging to decide upon the winners and runners up.

“In fact, this year they decided to make two special awards, one in each age category.

“We thank the staff and students of all the schools, academies and colleges who took part and we look forward to organising next year’s competition, and to the involvement and support of all schools.”
