SADDLEWORTH SCHOOL is hoping to raise £2,000 for Sport Relief.

The challenge was to run the equivalent miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End (874 miles) every day for five days making a total of 4,370 miles.P15 Sadd School sport relief (1)
This was done through the week running laps of the astroturf with eight laps equating to one mile.

The total reached exceeded 5,300 miles which meant they had travelled the length of Britain six times.

Almost every one of the 1,300 pupils ran or walked one mile with the more enthusiastic ones reaching totals of 18 miles for the week.

Emma Hall (year 10) ran a total of 20 miles in her PE lesson and after school and received a sports-voucher prize from Rugby League legend Kevin Sinfield, a former head boy at Saddleworth School.P15 Sadd School sport relief (2)
PE staff Richard Meadowcroft and Gary Melling each ran a marathon over the course of the week and there were notable performances from other staff as Mike Healey and Paul Jones ran a half marathon in the course of a wet and blustery afternoon and other staff put on their trainers and high heels to join in with the challenge!

There was also a basketball match to raise further finds as the staff team, reinforced by players from Manchester Giants, beat the pupils 45-41.
