The year seven team

SADDLEWORTH SCHOOL’S year seven team capped off a fantastic opening school season as they defeated Waterhead by 85 runs at Moorside Cricket Club.

The team has enjoyed three comprehensive victories this term as well as attending a trip to Headingley where they received expert coaching and then had the opportunity to enjoy the experience of watching a live T20 Blast game.

In the match against Waterhead, Saddleworth recorded an impressive 143 runs in their allocated 20 overs. Joe Aston led the way with an unbeaten 41. Accurate bowling and sharp fielding restricted Waterhead to 58.

Highlight of the match came from Aston who dived spectacularly from the edge of the boundary to catch Waterhead’s opening batsman.

The team will now enter the Lancashire Cup in year eight as it looks to extend its unbeaten record.

Meanwhile, the Saddleworth year 10 cricket team was defeated by 18 runs at home to Bluecoat in the semi finals of the Oldham Schools’ Cup.

Set a formidable target of 136 runs in the allotted 20 overs, Saddleworth fell 18 runs short in their chase.

George Slight led the way for the unlucky losers, hitting 38 runs.
