SADDLEWORTH SINGERS were certainly dressed for the occasion as they celebrate their pearl anniversary this year…
For the ladies’ choir wore pearls – the traditional gift for a 30-year anniversary – along with their eye-catching lilac jackets and uniform for their Summer Concert last month.
The night’s entertainment ‘And all that jazz’ at the Civic Hall in Uppermill saw 44 members of the 58-strong choir take to the stage with a lively programme.
They were led by Musical Director Hilary Henderson and accompanist Rachael Gibbon, and were also joined by guest musicians Phoenix Brass ‘doing jazz’ for some of the repertoire.
Saddleworth Singers were founded three decades ago by Mary Bradshaw and welcomes singers of all ages and abilities.
Members – including some founders of the choir – meet weekly at Springhead Community Centre to practice their varied repertoire, which ranges from Abba to Adele.
They are privileged to have very experienced and talented accompanist Rachael Gibbon, who also plays the clarinet wonderfully.
And their highly respected and enthusiastic MD Hilary Henderson regularly adds new music to retain the freshness and vocal stimulation required to help the choir improve.
The choir has also raised thousands of pounds for charity over the years, with the largest donation being last October to Springhead Community Centre to help raise funds for their roof repairs.
This year they are supporting The MS Society and recently held a very successful Lucy Cobb Fashion Evening.
