SADDLEWORTH SCHOOL’S year 10 team was crowned Oldham schools’ rugby league champions for the fourth consecutive year following a 34-6 triumph in the final against Crompton House.

A brace of tries from Jacob Butterworth sealed victory as the hosts stretched their advantage in the final few minutes to give an unfair reflection on what had been a highly competitive encounter.
The year nine rugby team regained the Oldham schools’ title it lost to Crompton House in the year eight final 12 months ago with a comprehensive 52-0 final victory against Waterhead Academy.
Some slick handling and free flowing rugby on an afternoon perfect for expansive play helped the hosts put their opponents to the sword.
Player-of-the-match Gabriel Payne was in scintillating form as he registered two full length of the field tries which were as glorious as the weather.

The year seven team capped off a fine season with a commanding 48-0 victory over Waterhead Academy in the final of the Oldham Schools’ rugby league Cup.
Having reached the national quarter-finals earlier in the season, Saddleworth went into this match as firm favourites and they duly justified this tag with an impressive team display.
Nine tries from seven different try scorers was an indication of the strength in depth shown by this squad.
Jacob Mitchell and Nolan Tupaea both scored a brace.
Seven of the tries were converted by the reliable boot of Jack Sinfield and the team will now aim to improve on its semi-final spot in the North West Counties Schools’ Cup.
They will also represent the borough in the Carnegie Champion Schools’ Cup in September.
