Saddleworth Stars Nursery at Scouthead has been crowned among the very best early years settings in the country.
The private day nursery, on Huddersfield Road, was named Nursery of the Year for North England and overall Nursery of the Year at the National Day Nurseries Association Nursery Awards.
They received the prestigious accolades and £500 at a glittering ceremony at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, with awards presented by TV star and maths legend Johnny Ball.
Owners Tory and Rafael Fernandez, parents to three children, opened Saddleworth Stars in 2014 with an ambition to run the best nursery they could.
Tory said: “Winning this award has been an overwhelmingly emotional time for us. We have all cried tears of joy – even my husband!
“We try our best every day to make our nursery a place of joy and happiness for the children so to be recognised by NDNA is amazing.
“We feel though that our true judges are the children at Saddleworth Stars each day. If they’re happy then we’re happy too!”
The expert judging panel was wowed by the Saddleworth Stars approach to acknowledge each child’s individuality and develop them to their full potential socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually in a secure and vibrant environment.
Purnima Tanuku OBE, Chief Executive of the NDNA, said: “Congratulations to Saddleworth Stars who are truly a shining example of the great work happening in nurseries across the country. It’s thoroughly deserved and I am delighted for them.”
Saddleworth Stars Manager, Kim Rattcliffe, said: “When I first met owners Tory and Rafael Fernandez I realised their vision for childcare made Saddleworth Stars a truly special place where the children would always come first.
“Every child in our care is respected as an individual and we try to make every day fun, safe, exciting and full of happiness for them.”
