A SIDE-SPLITTING comedy night helped to raise more than £600 for the Saddleworth WI’s chosen charity the Oldham Bereavement Support Service.
The event, organised by Off the Rails Comedy Club at The Royal George in Greenfield, saw three comedians and compere Rob Riley take to the stage to entertain.
The WI raffle, with prizes kindly donated by local businesses, was very successful and the group would like to thank everyone who supported them on the night or by donating a prize.
Then at their July meeting, when they celebrated their sixth birthday, they welcomed journalist and author Kevin Fitzpatrick to hear his musings on life which have earned him the title of the ‘Great New Philosopher of our times’.
The WI’s next outing will be at the Saddleworth Show at Saddleworth School on July 12 and 13.
Then at their next meeting on August 6, WI advisor Jackie Hobson will be giving a light-hearted insight into the history and ethos behind the W.I.
The WI meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Saddleworth Hotel from 7.30pm.
New members and guests are always welcome. The annual subscription fee is £34.70 and they ask for a voluntary donation of 50p from members and £2 from non-members per meeting towards running costs and refreshments.
The sub-groups, including Food and Drink, Cinema and Theatre, Book club, Singing Group, Walking Club, Handicraft and Cake, and Day Trips, meet regularly.
Further details of events, subgroups and monthly speakers can be found at www.saddleworthwi.com or their newly updated Facebook page and Twitter.
