Santas are dashing back to Uppermill for fun festive fun

SADDLEWORTH is gearing up for an invasion of Santas once more in a bid to raise funds for deserving causes.

Santas on last year’s run

Following last year’s epic festive extravaganza, the Saddleworth Santa Dash and Winter Wonderland is returning to Uppermill.

Organised by Saddleworth Round Table in partnership with Revolution 96.2, this year’s event takes place on Saturday, December 2, with registration and entertainment from 12noon.

David Wood, Round Table’s event organiser, said: “Last year’s response was amazing.

“More than 500 children and adults dressed as Santa ran the 2km or 5km course, bringing festive delight to the villagers.

“The event raised more than £3,500 for local good causes and charities and we are hoping to smash that total this year.

“Monies raised will be used to host a cracking Christmas party in January for the elderly residents from a number of Oldham care homes.

“We’ve also been able to make donations to Saddleworth Olympics, Saddleworth Morris Men, Uppermill Cricket Club and Greenfield Beaver Scouts.”

The Santa Dash is fun for all the family

“Places are selling fast for this year’s Santa Dash,“ added David. “We are looking forward to a big per turn out.”

The action-packed, family fun day launches at 12noon on the main stage with music and entertainment from Breakfast Show DJ Elliot Eastwick and the team from Revolution 96.2.

The Santa Dash, a 2km or 5km fun-run (entrants decide) begins at 2.30pm in the Village Square in Uppermill.

At 3.30pm Santa’s sleigh will be pulled by Saddleworth’s very own Morris Men Reindeer along the village High Street to the Square.

There, villagers will gather for the Christmas lights switch-on with carol singing from St Chad’s School Choir in front of the tree.

The event wraps up with a spectacular firework display at around 5pm.

Mulled wine, real ale and other festive treats will be available from the expanded Christmas market in the Square, and enjoy the chance to visit Santa in Uppermill Methodist Church.
