A MOUTH-WATERING treat lies in store as coffee shop and café Scona has settled in the Satellite, Greenfield until the end of August.
T
he theme is Street Food and each Sunday a delicious menu is served for breakfast (9am–noon) and main dishes (noon-4pm) including a vegetarian option and Scona’s famous scones.
Gemma Marshall, owner of Scóna who recently left the Reclamation Room in Uppermill, said: “Over the years I have focused on the health and well-being of my family and I have always enjoyed providing healthy and nutritious food.
“This was really an extension of what I enjoyed at home – having people round for meals, or just a cup of tea, a scone and a chat.
“The Satellite Centre was suggested to me as a possible pop-up location for Scóna and it didn’t take long for me to see the potential.
“It has the community ethos that is inherent in our approach at Scóna, in a beautiful setting with space to accommodate us and be accessible to all.
“Scóna prides itself on using quality, locally sourced ingredients, and our food is wholesome and authentic.
“We avoid using any processed food and are attracted to simple, delicious recipes. If we don’t love it, we don’t serve it.”
The café aims to bring along its loyal customers and groups from Uppermill including Funky Fitness and Cancer Warriors, as well as make a lot of new friends too.
“We’ve interacted with artists and musicians,” said Gemma, “which encouraged both young and old to participate, creating a great atmosphere.
“This happened quite naturally and we would hope to continue this approach. Our idea of a coffee shop in the Satellite is to provide a place locally, where people know they are welcome to come, sit round the table and receive some nourishment.”
“Cafes are great meeting places,” added Mike Rooke, Chairman of the SSYCA Trust that runs the Satellite.
“Although a lot of people have been using this community building throughout the year, we’ve already seen how Scóna has introduced more visitors to our Centre.
“If we do get some sunshine, you can enjoy alfresco dining looking out onto Churchill Playing Fields. I’ve sampled the menu and the food’s great!’
