Scouting in Lydgate needs your help

ENTHUSIASTIC BEAVER leaders are being sought as after four years of running a thriving colony at Lydgate, the current leaders are stepping down.

The group would like to say a huge thank you to Vanessa, Debbie and Michaela who have run the unit successfully since 2011.

However, unless some others come forward and take on running the Beaver colony, it will have to close.

Beavers is the first contact young children will have with the Scouting movement and introduces them to activities such as craft activities, sports, sleepovers and outdoors activities.

Beavers is open to boys and girls between the ages of six and eight and at Lydgate they meet on Friday nights 6:15pm-7:15pm at the Parish Hall, opposite St. Anne’s Church on Stockport Road.

If anyone is interested in finding out more information about becoming a leader or parent helper, have a look at the scout website.

The current Cub and Scout leaders are more than willing to offer any support and guidance to anyone who is thinking about helping.

Cubs and the newly re-formed Scout Troop both meet on Friday nights too, Cubs (for girls and boys aged 8-10½ years) from 7-8:30pm and Scouts (for girls and boys aged 10½-14 years) from 8-9:30pm.

If anyone is interested or knows of someone who is interested in joining either group, or even if any adults would like to get involved as parent helpers or leaders, please contact the leaders.

As a leader it can be challenging, but great fun and you get to have a go at lots of great activities, such as Kayaking, orienteering, sailing, plus the sense of achievement in introducing the Cubs/Scouts to these activities.
