Scouts get into festive spirit with unique fair and post plans

YOUNG SCOUTS are getting into festive spirit as they are hosting a fundraising Christmas Fair and launching their own unique ‘ScoutPost’.ScoutPost

The 20th Oldham Scouts, who meet at Uppermill Methodist Church, were inspired by a visit to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team last month and have decided to raise funds for them.

They will hold a Christmas Fair on Saturday December 5, coinciding with the village Christmas lights switch-on, with a host of stalls and refreshments at the centre at the Church.

Proceeds will be shared between OMRT and international charity Shelterbox as well as the Church Property Fund to help pay for much-needed new heating.

And the Scouts will also be getting hands on with their new ‘ScoutPost’ scheme to deliver Christmas cards around Uppermill.

Locals can buy special ScoutPost stamps, which cost just £1 for 4 and are available from businesses including Authentic, All Wrapped Up, Copyright, the Millyard Gallery and Uppermill Post Office.

Cards with a ScoutPost stamp on can be delivered to any address in Uppermill and must be clearly addressed and with a return address on the back, and posted in the Scouts’s purple collection boxes in these shops.

The last posting date will be midday on Friday, December 18 to allow plenty of time to sort and deliver the cards before the final delivery on December 23.
