Sculptors capture stories in latest exhibition at Gallery Oldham

THE LATEST exhibition at Gallery Oldham explores the ways in which sculptors have used their art form to tell stories.

Residents can enjoy the ‘Sculpting Stories’ exhibition from December 19 to May 14.

It is divided into three sections: Me, You and Us. ‘Me’ looks at the stories the sculptures tell about the person who made it; ‘You’ at the person who is depicted and ‘Us’ at the societies they were from or live in.

The show will include significant names from the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Elizabeth Frink, Jacob Epstein, Laura Ford and Arthur Dooley.

This is also the first time the impressive sculptural highlights of the Great Manchester Museums Group have been shown together in one place.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Co-operatives, said: “This exhibition is a great chance for visitors to see work from some of the best known sculptors from the past and those still producing artwork.

“This is a major show for Gallery Oldham and we are very grateful to our colleagues at Bury Art Museum, Bolton Museum, Art Gallery & Aquarium, Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Tameside Museums and Touchstones Rochdale for their assistance with this project.”
