She Sheds lay strong foundations in Springhead

IF there was ever any doubt that women can be as handy at DIY as men, then a unique ‘She Sheds’ project in Springhead is proving people wrong…

Some of the ladies and their products made at She Sheds

The DIY for ladies group was launched in 2016 initially as an eight-week taster course in collaboration with Age UK and Men in Sheds, which is based in Greenfield.

The small group met at Springhead Community Centre to learn skills such as changing fuses, wood working skills, gardening and more.

Interest grew and numbers swelled so much that now regular sessions are being held from this Autumn, including workshops with a project focus.

Cllr Barbara Beeley, chair of the Springhead and Lees Community Association who helped to launch the group, said: “It has been such great success that we’ve decided to carry on.

“We now meet on Wednesdays with a session from 9.30am to 12.30pm and another from 1pm to 4pm. Each session is separate so you can come morning or afternoon or both.

“You can learn those basic skills or choose your own project or join in with a group one.”

And from Autumn, there will also be six-week workshops with a project focus, with all welcome to get involved. To find out more or reserve a place call Barbara.

For more information about ‘She Sheds’ call Barbara on: 0161 652 0930. Sessions costs £3 each.
