A NEW hairdressing salon in Denshaw is proving that size really does not matter…
For business is booming at ‘BOX’ – which is aptly named to reflect its small proportions – since it threw open its doors at the end of November.
The former Village Store was transformed by stylist Ruth Greenhalgh and her army of family and friends into a sleek and trendy salon in just three weeks.
With one basin and two stylising stations, it’s certainly snug inside, but it is certainly not limited in its offerings as Ruth brings more than 10 years’ experience to the table.
For men and women, boys and girls of all ages, there’s cuts, blow drys, colours, highlights and more and Ruth also specialises in bridal hair.
“I was going to the cinema with my family, and we drove past the village store and noticed it was up for sale,” explained Ruth who lives with husband Pete and their young children Zara and George in Delph.
“Pete asked if I would like it as a little salon so I came in to have a look. The next thing I knew he had bought it!
“We kept saying ‘we’ve bought a box!’ and I had to choose a short name to fit it in the space for the sign so that’s what we decided to call it.”
Ruth previously ran her own salon in Dukinfield before returning to Saddleworth 18 months ago to be closer to family.
“It has been exciting but hard work to get everything sorted,” Ruth added. “I’ve had a lot of support from friends and family looking after the kids to helping paint and polyfiler the place!
“A lot of people have come in to have a look at what I’ve done and everyone has been really welcoming. I love coming to work and it’s great I can fit in my hours around the children.
“It is going really well so far and I’ve had to take on a Saturday girl already!”
Ruth exclusively uses TIGI products and, after extensive training, is the only salon in Saddleworth to use TIGI colour.
