The Technique Soul and Motown Band will perform on Saturday, November 30 in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care for adults with non-curable and life-threatening illnesses.

Top Motown and Northern Soul DJ Carl H Spiers will also entertain, and there will be a raffle to raise funds.

Technique band member Mel Brierley said their association with the Hospice began at a school reunion and they are keen to continue supporting the charity.

He explained: “About three years ago we had a school reunion where we did a similar sort of thing. The money we raised all went to Dr Kershaw’s and we thought it was a good local charity.

“We’ve done things for them before so we thought we could do them one again. We know Saddleworth is an area that likes the sort of stuff we do and it gives us the chance to showcase our talents and do some good.”

Preparations for the event, which starts at 7pm, are well underway and tickets costing £10 are available from Uppermill Post Office, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Royton and Dr Kershaw’s Charity Shop in Lees.

Mel, who admitted the group hope to make the event an annual one, added: “Preparations are going fine, everything seems to be going to plan and I think it’s all going well.”

“We have talked about doing it annually and it’s something we could do if it was a success this time.”
