THERE was a special delivery of cake and cheer at Delph Post Office on October 11 for their first birthday celebrations.
Izhar and Oazmia Akhtar took over as postmasters of the village shop one year ago and celebrated the milestone by laying on a spread of cake and treats for their customers.

Izhar said: “The year has gone so quickly and we’ve learned a lot. It has been a bit of a challenge but we’ve had a really good year and we’re looking forward to the next one.”
Oazmia, who celebrated her birthday on the same day, added: “Thank you to all our customers and everyone in Delph who has made us feel so welcome from day one.
“We look forward to every day as our customers are so nice. We love to have a bit of a natter when they come in.”
The couple took over from postmasters of 15 years Eric and Wendy Dodd and the shop had a two-week refurbishment before they opened the doors last October.
Post Office services are available including mail, vehicle tax services, foreign currency, and finance services such as paying in and withdrawing cash and cheques.
They also sell a range of food and household items including drinks, sweets, crisps, bread, eggs, toilet rolls, cat food and more.
Regular customer Sandra Povah, who has lived in Delph for 35 years, said: “I have seen so many shops close along this road. It is great to see them doing so well.
“The village Post Office is so important for the community and they always make everyone feel so welcome. They are so helpful and will do anything for their customers.”
Izhar and Oazmia, who live in Oldham with their children, are planning a few improvements for the post office and shop in the near future.
