Stage adaption of cult classic ‘The Graduate’ coming to the Millgate

Saddleworth Players are bringing an exciting stage adaption of the cult 1960s film and classic novel ‘The Graduate’ to the Millgate Arts Centre, Delph in March.

The bittersweet comedy tells of Benjamin Braddock, a twenty-one-year-old graduate with outstanding grades, who finds himself questioning his purpose in life and the privileged, suburban world inhabited by his parents.

Week two of rehearsals, The Graduate
Melvyn Bates (second left) directs members of The Graduate cast (L-R) Samantha Griffiths, Sam Reid and Kate Davies

Bored and confused, Benjamin falls prey to the seductions of the enigmatic Mrs Robinson, the wife of his father’s business partner.

They begin an affair which takes an unfortunate turn when Benjamin falls for Elaine, Mrs Robinson’s bright and breezy daughter.

Complex and intriguing characters deliver witty and fast-paced dialogue against the backdrop of well-to-do Berkeley in sixties southern California.

The Graduate is directed by Melvyn Bates with the characters brilliantly played by actors Samantha Griffiths, John Rawson, Kate Davies, Jill Woods, Paul Gledhill and Sam Reid.

The play contains brief nudity and adult themes (not suitable for younger audiences).

Saddleworth Players will be performing ‘The Graduate’ at the Millgate Arts Centre, Delph, from March 25 to April 1.

Tickets can be purchased online, from the Saddleworth Players box office by calling: 01457 874644 (Tuesdays 2pm – 5pm, Wednesday & Thursday 2pm – 7pm and Fridays & Saturdays 9:30am – 1pm), from Delph Library, or contact Saddleworth Players via their website: www.millgateartscentre.co.uk
