Stan Bowes, from Diggle, has uncovered some interesting and entertaining facts – you just couldn’t make them up.
IN 2001, New York doctor Richard Batista was generous enough to donate a kidney to his wife.
His action wasn’t entirely altruistic though. His marriage was in difficulties, and he hoped his kindness would lead to a happier situation.
Sadly, life doesn’t always go the way you want it to. Shortly after the operation proved successful, his wife filed for divorce.
Not particularly amused, the doctor demanded the return of his kidney or compensation of $1.5 million dollars. The case reached the courts, who decided a gift is a gift, with no right of return.
