Stan Bowes, from Diggle, has uncovered some more interesting and entertaining strange but true facts for us – you just couldn’t make them up.

IN 2008 a British Airways flight to London hastily returned to Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport after passengers, fearing a terrorist attack, thought they could smell poison gas.

The aircraft was contained in an emergency runway procedure area at the airportwhile workers wearing breathing apparatus helped panicking passengers from the plane.

An investigation soon revealed the culprit to be a large container of curry spices in the cargo hold.

FOR MANY years German farm-worker Wolfgang Mueller dreamed of driving his 44 year-old red Massey Fergusson MF35 tractor back to the factory where it was made.

So in 2007, two weeks after retiring, he set off on the 700 mile journey to Coventry, towing a caravan.

After many days on minor roads, through several countries, he eventually reached his destination, only to find the factory had been knocked down years earlier.
