Stone me! Reader seeks clues to mystery marker

AN eagle-eyed Independent reader is seeking clues to a mystery stone unearthed in Diggle.

Boundary stone in Diggle

The discarded and discoloured piece of material appears to be a boundary marker of some description and is engraved with the letters C U L B.

“I really have no idea what the letters stand for,” Mr Ager told the Independent.

“It may be railway related in some way?

“But it is perfectly clear how far it was sunk in the ground by the black line.

“It looks quite old but has been removed from wherever it lived and is now just stored in a pile of other stone on it’s back.”

Do you know where the stone originally stood? Or what the letters stand for?
