PAM TOMLINSON’S victory in Mr President’s Prize at Saddleworth was especially sweet.
It was the first major won by Pam after 22 years playing golf and presenting the prize was her brother Allan Entwistle, Saddleworth’s current club president.

“It had been a long wait and special as it was my first major and also being my brother’s competition,” explained the 63-year-old who is Lady Vice-Captain.
Pam, a previous runner-up in Mr Captain’s Prize, thought she had thrown her chances of victory at the 15th hole of the second round when she got plugged in a bunker and took a seven on the par-three hole.
“I thought I had blown it but managed to get out and single putt the green which was just as well as I only won by one shot,” explained Pam whose husband Barry is also a keen golfer.
Pam, who works part time for the family plumbing business in Uppermill, is also a keen crown green bowler having played at Uppermill for 38 years.
Pam, whose handicap has been cut to 18, had rounds of 75 and 71 for 146 as she pipped Pam Taylor (74 and 73 for 147) for top spot.
The first-day prize went to Sybil Bate (102-30-72) second-round honours were claimed by Debra Cockburn (94-21-73).
Pam’s rich vein of form also saw her win a pink-ball competition with Muriel Makin and Hazel Rogerson with a score of 32 points. Pam Taylor (35pts) had the best individual score.

Lady Captain Julie Ward and Jenny Knight were winners of the Ladies Open at Crompton and Royton with a score of 46 points in the Stableford.
