You don¹t need your own boat all equipment is provided. The courses are open to non members and can take people who have never sailed before or those who are looking to improve their skills.

Dovestone Sailing Club is a Royal Yachting Association training centre and courses they are running are RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2. The minimum age to take a course is 16 years.

.A complete beginner can take the level 1 course when you¹ll learn to sail in all directions and develop an awareness of launching and recovering. After completing the course you will be able to sail in light winds under supervision.

If you already have the skills of level 1, then the level 2 course will take you on to rigging, launching, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge. After completing the level 2 course you will be able to sail and make decisions in good conditions.

Who knows, may be you could become the next world champion like Ian Jones, a Dovestone member, who recently won the Laser Masters World Championships in Oman.

If you would like to take one of the courses then contact Mal Hartland by email: trainingdsc@googlemail.com or membershipdsc@googlemail.com. Find out more on the club’s
