AN evening with Kate Richardson-Walsh, who captained Team GB women’s hockey to gold at the Olympic Games in Rio, raised almost £3,500 for Oldham Hockey Club.
The fundraiser at Smokies Park Hotel provided much needed financial support for the club that has had an influx of players after the Olympic success, increasing expenditure due to hiring extra facilities and extra equipment being needed.
The evening was a huge success with players, past and present, friends and family and members from other clubs within Greater Manchester attending.
An inspiring speech from Kate was the highlight of the evening. As she talked about her experiences as the GB women’s hockey captain, she captured the attention of everyone in the room.
She also held a Q&A session for the audience, and her answers gave insight into how we can inspire future generations to continue to support hockey and maintain the love for the sport.
The evening was organised by club member Ashleigh Wilson and her husband Adam, who acted as compere.
The £3,407 raised will go towards pitch fees for training sessions and matches and much-needed equipment.
