LOCAL RUGBY League player Josh Johnson has spoken of his delight after being handed a contract extension by Huddersfield Giants to the end of the 2016 season.
The 19-year-old prop forward, who played junior rugby for both Saddleworth Rangers and Waterhead, has already made four Super League appearances for Giants as well as one in the Challenge Cup.
Johnson, a former pupil at Diggle Primary and Saddleworth School, said: “My main aim at the start of the year was to get an early extension to my contract and obviously I’m pleased it has been sorted out.
“I have a great chance here to become a full-fledged Super League player.”
Meanwhile, Giants’ coach Paul Anderson has also paid tribute to Johnson declaring: “Josh is deserving of a longer opportunity at the club.
“He is well aware of what he needs to do to keep improving as a professional.”
Johnson, who made his Super League debut for Giants against Salford in August 2013, comes from RL stock as his Uppermill-based grandfather Ken Payne is the former Oldham RL and Blackpool player.
