That invigilator’s staring at me…

By Phoebe Price

SO IT’S that time of year again: the dreaded exam season.

It seems like it’s come around to smack you in the face before you’ve had chance do all that revision you had planned, right?  Don’t worry, you’re not the only traveller battling through the tempest – and no I don’t mean your parents’ words of conviction that “Exams were harder in my day” and “You’ll be fine”

‘I HAVE TWO EXAMS TOMORROW AND I DON’T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING – DOES IT LOOK LIKE I’LL BE FINE?’, no doubt the voice in your head is screaming.

I’ve been there far too many times, but in my experience of being tested over and over and over again, I have picked up some handy tips along the way:

DO – Eat well and sleep well: These things tend to get pushed to the back of the priority list at exam time, but a healthy diet and a good night’s sleep are vital if you want your brain to remember all that information.  Try to get eight hours shut eye a night and check out the Change For Life website for some neat healthy meals and snack ideas.

DO – Exercise: A short break to go on a walk around our beautiful villages or a run to the gym will release endorphins to lift your mood and rejuvenate you ready for a productive afternoon of revision (it works better than a coffee surge!).

DO – Work hard: you get out what you put in.  Find yourself a study buddy to keep you motivated.

DON’T – Ignore the topic you find the hardest – target it first, you’ll soon see it’s easier than you first thought and the rest is a downhill cruise.

DON’T – Take a selfie as you enter the exam hall – it may give you five minutes of fame and make the nation laugh but is it really worth getting disqualified from your exam for?

Whether it’s GCSES, A-Levels or those pesky end of year tests you’re taking, I wish you all the best of luck, and in the words of Winston Churchill: “Never give in, never, never, never!”
