AN INSPIRING creative writing course will be held again in Dobcross next month after a successful first run last year.
Filmmaker and writer John L Matthews, who lives in the village, is running the six-week course at Sandy Lane Community Church every Thursday from October 1 to November 5.
The ITV and BBC script writer hopes it will help and inspire both new and more experienced writers.
He said: “I know a lot of people want to do a creative writing course from the response to the last one.
“We had a fantastic time and a lot of the students wanted to carry on, and so did I. It was very exciting and most importantly good fun.
“The quality of the writing and the improvements made over just a few weeks was inspirational.”
John, who set up Manchester-based film company Bigger Picture ten years ago, has his work shown all over the world and released his first book last year.
He said: “I believe everyone can write. Getting started is the most difficult. What I hope to do on this new course is inspire local people to have a go.
“We have been running creative courses for businesses for many years but this is a lot more fun. There is a lot of hidden talent locally and I want to tease it out.”
Gillian, one of John’s students, said: “I had a fantastic time. I have learnt a lot” while Dennis said: “I’ve tried things I have never done before and am using a lot more detail now.”
Sarah added: “It’s hard work but a lot of fun. My writing has come on so much. It’s an extremely useful and enjoyable course.
“I would recommend it to anyone who lacks confidence in their writing, especially if they’re worried about their punctuation or grammar.”
John L Matthews will run the six-week at Sandy Lane Community Church every Thursday from October 1 to November 5 from 10am to 12noon. The fee is £95.
