EVERYONE LOOKS for a short cut into looking good, and with the era of selfies and spray tans and just as many men using beauty salons as women, are there any quick fixes to looking good and getting the ideal body shape?
Firstly clean up the diet: cut down on the cakes, crisps, sugar filled drinks and alcohol.
Bread also isn’t a great help so although it may taste great smothered in butter and jam, it’s what you put on it that doubles and triples its content of naughtiness.
You know that gourmet hot drink you have in the morning at the coffee shop? Your latte, dependent on size, contains up to 400 calories. Swap back to normal tea or coffee.
Your heavenly Mochas, Vanilla Frappuccinos and your hot chocolates are all in excess of 500 calories and don’t let the Chia tea latte kid you, coming in at a whopping 370 calories.
Most women want to lift our bums, firm our tums, tighten our thighs and smooth off any dimples in the back of our legs.
No one can ever offer a quick fix or we would all look like Claudia Schiffer. But I can give you the quickest and best advice – being 44 but still looking younger than girls a decade my junior. Here are my quick tips tried and tested.
To tighten your tum, simply cutting down on the above will make such huge improvements that 100s of sit-ups won’t if you carry on with the same diet. Diet is key: it’s 70 per cent of how you look.
Changing the way you eat will also lose you some of those dimples you may have in your legs and if you also buy a brush for dry skin brushing, use it for just a couple of minutes gently in the morning before you shower in a circular motion. Stimulating the lymphatic system helps toxins to be circulated into the elimination channels for release, targeting areas of cellulite.
The best exercise for lifting and firming your bum and giving you great legs are LUNGES. Lunges are often overlooked but there is no better exercise and you can do it in the privacy of your home.
Stand side on to the mirror so you can see your form. Take a wide step out in front of you with the right foot facing forward so the legs are split. Your feet should be around 2-3ft apart dependent on leg length. (You may be wobbly so hold on to the wall or a chair. This exercise also helps stability tightening the tummy).
Keep your back upright and bend the knees and lower the body down until the back knee is a few inches off the floor. Your front thigh should be parallel to the floor, both feet facing forward and if you look in the mirror you should have 90 degree angles in each leg.
Distribute the weight evenly and push back up keeping the weight in the heel of the front foot. Repeat this as many times as you feel comfortable and then change legs and repeat. You can eventually add weight or even lunge walk.
If you want to get your heart rate going and have a full body workout or personal training, I will soon be starting the American ‘Insanity’ class in Saddleworth so please message me for details: sarah@sarahdonohue.com
