KAY ORME admitted being surprised to be named Saddleworth’s Golfer of the Year for 2013.
The four-handicapper didn’t think she was in the running after failing to land one of the club’s majors.
It was Kay’s consistency, however, which saw her triumph as the award is a points-based honour encompassing a large number of competitions held throughout the year.
Kay, who was also Golfer of the Year in 2011, won the Birdie, Silver Division Eclectic and Marshall Barlow Salver.
She said: “I was surprised to win because I didn’t win a major, though I had a couple of near misses.
“I suppose I have been consistent, but the most pleasing thing last year was to reduce my handicap to four.”
Kay is pictured receiving her award from Lady Captain Pauline Richardson. Elsewhere, Eileen Simpson won the Bronze Division Eclectic.
Kay and Saddleworth ladies have been drawn to play Brookdale in the first round of the Manchester and District Alliance’s Bell Cup, a competition which has attracted an entry of 80 clubs.
Saddleworth’s Dave Pullen has taken over as president of the Huddersfield and Halifax District Union.
The 46-year-old is the first member from Saddleworth to hold the post.
David, who was captain at Saddleworth in 2009, is heavily involved at the club along with wife Jennifer while sons Steven and Ben are also accomplished players.
