A UNIQUE virtual experience is coming to Saddleworth to help to increase understanding of dementia.
Quality care for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias begins with family members and professional caregivers who are sensitive, patient and kind.
Now they can take part in The Virtual Dementia Tour to help them experience firsthand the physical and mental challenges facing those with dementia every day.
The Tour was created by PK Beville, MS, founder of the non-profit Second Wind Dreams, and is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia.
It gives participants an opportunity to understand what they need to change to keep loved ones at home longer, improve practice and quality of care.
Scary, isolating, confusing and emotional, this fantastic experience must not be missed and will truly change the lives of people with this disease.
The Tour is perfect for anyone that comes into direct or indirect contact with people with dementia and has been adopted by organisations around the UK.
Locals can book onto the Tour this September, which has been brought to Saddleworth with the help of Oldham Council and Oldham Community Leisure and local Dementia Friends Champion Joyce Brown.
There will be 70 places over two days on September Friday 16 and Saturday 17 at Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre in Uppermill. There will be times slots held at 9.30am-12noon, 12.15pm-2.45pm and 3pm-5.15pm, each including the 10-minute virtual experience.
You can also book over the phone by calling Maria Riches at Training2Care on 01376 573999, quoting SADDLEWORTH.
