UPPERMILL FC were able to call their annual football tournament at Churchill Playing Fields an international one as they welcomed visitors from the United States.
Valley Soccer Club, Connecticut, were one of 13 teams taking part ranging from U5s to the open age women’s team.
The American club established links eight years ago when they contacted Uppermill asking for a game when they were touring England.
This time their party included 18 U14 players and 11 adults and they stayed at the Boarshurst Centre, Greenfield, and they trained with Uppermill FC the day before the tournament. They also played games against teams in Barnsley, Leeds, Liverpool and Mossley.
They also paid visits to Old Trafford, Etihad Stadium, Conway Castle and a mine in Wales.
Failsworth JFC won the U15s round robin tournament with Mossley JFC runners up.
Uppermill FC took the U15 competition, again in a round robin format event with Uppermill U14s runners up.
The women’s team beat Wythenshawe Ladies.
All the winning teams received a trophy and the players from Valley Soccer Club each received a commemorative trophy each.
