AN Uppermill men’s barber is proving to be a cut above the opposition.
Customers at Danny & Co Barbers on New Street may well have had their male grooming done by new UK Barber of the Year, Kilian Maddison.
Kilian previously worked at the Shaw business on Milnrow Road, owned by Danny Robinson, before moving to the Uppermill shop.
Delighted Danny said: “I’m so proud of Kilian.
“He has been with me for about 15 months having moved from a shop in Sheffield.
“He worked in Shaw for six months but moved to Uppermill because most of his friends are this way.”
To win the competition at the ExCel Centre in London, Kilian fhad to send in a photograph of the design he was going to cut.
On the big day, contestants then received 35 minutes to replicate the same haircut on a model.
“Kilian finished with five minutes to spare,” laughed Danny.
“He then watched all the others sweating and panicking with a big smile on his face.
“Everyone knew he had won and there were a lot of big names from the hair industry watching.
“I’m made up for him. I own it but Kilian is building up a nice little business at the Uppermill shop.”
The awards have becoming on a regular basis for the business selected as one of the ‘Three Best Rated’ barbers in Oldham while receiving five-star reviews nearly five consecutive years.
This month the Uppermill shop is moving to larger premises above Hei Hei’s Chinese takeaway on the High Street.
