A FLEDGLING team of Dobcross volunteers are helping to put the final piece of a conservation tidy-up in place.
The small group met with Phil Smith of the Canal and River Trust and walked a stretch of the Huddersfield Canal from the transshipment shed at Wool Road.
Along the way, they picked up litter and assessed the state of the path and overgrown vegetation.
They agreed to help improve the path and trim back vegetation in future sessions, which will possibly be held twice a month, one a weekday and one on a Saturday.
With other volunteer groups carrying out similar work across Saddleworth, there is now coverage of the whole stretch of the canal through Greenfield, Uppermill, Dobcross and Diggle to the end of Stannage Tunnel.
The next sessions in Dobcross are tentatively set for Wednesday, May 18 from 10am to noon, and then Saturday, May, 28, time to be confirmed.
